Synthroid

May 21, 2009 – Day 141

In November 2007, my doctor discovered that I had a thyroid problem which would require medication. On November 21st, my 48th birthday, I started taking synthroid and my doctor said I will have to be on it for the rest of my life. I don't know if there are any other members of my family that have thyroid problems which require medication - maybe I'm the only one?

(I photoshopped some of personal information out for this web version)

  1. I was told a while back that I have an under active thyroid Jewel but that I don't need medication for this, I don't know if I have ever shared this with you or not.

  2. The fertility clinic discovered that I had borderline thyroid problems. I did have to take synthroid, but only while trying to get pregnant. My new doctor in Calgary said that I don't need to take it though, so I guess I don't have a thyroid problem then? Doctors are confusing sometimes!

  3. I think doctors sometimes disagree on certain treatments, especially when something is borderline. Great news that you don't have to take it now though!

  5. i had no idea i had hypothyroidism until i had the symptoms. I gained 15 pounds and felt terribly depressed and moody. My co worker recommended bovine thyroid capsules a few weeks ago. So far its easing the symptoms.
