RIP

October 2, 2009 – Day 275

It froze last night and the last of my flowers are now officially dead. My fuchsia and this row of vanilla marigolds were still looking beautiful just a couple days ago but no amount of tender loving care can help them now!

  1. They sure did last a lot longer than most years I'd imagine. It was a pretty nice fall so far.

  2. I didn't always plant flowers but one year I remember pulling this kind (the vanilla marigolds) out right around Hallowe'en. I'm pretty sure this was the only year since then that I grew them so I expected they might last that long again - but it just got too cold for them. They are hardier than most plants...my pansies and petunias were in pretty bad shape a few weeks ago so I pulled them then.

I wish I was doing P365 in 1996 or '97 when there was no snow until December 24th. I did take one picture (looking out my decorated window) of the brown grass outside. My kids were over on Christmas eve and we had the door open (screen door closed) and it started snowing...was perfect timing to bring in the Christmas spirit.
